A 120 Day Plan Update

Three weeks ago, when we launched the 120 day plan, one of the plan's components was described as follows:

"We have identified a powerful way to disrupt the communication, training and recruitment of terrorists. We want to announce this on a nationwide telephone town hall by March 15th..."

What we were referring to was the hosting of top terrorist websites by American Internet Service Providers (ISP's). These sites are invaluable tools for terrorist organizations for recruitment, training and communications.

Thanks to our colleague, Joseph Shahda, we have been monitoring these sites for some time. Over the past few months we have put out information about these sites, collaborated with other organizations and bloggers to get the word out about these sites, and even contacted some of the American ISP's directly.

In spite of this increased pressure and publicity, the American ISP's in question refused to shut these terror sites down. So approximately eight weeks ago we decided it was time to launch a full-scale grassroots and public relations campaign to raise the pressure to a new level. It was that campaign we were referring to on February 8th when we launched the 120 day plan.

Well, as the saying goes, "a funny thing happened on the way" to launching our effort. Over the past two weeks, American ISP's shut down all but one of the top terrorist websites. In one case, this occurred after a local newspaper began making inquiries. We are surmising that the growing publicity and pressure that we along with many others helped generate reached sufficient "critical mass," resulting in the American ISP's finally doing the right thing and shutting these sites down.

As a result, in the past week we have decided to re-direct the grassroots action campaign toward a new target. A new development has recently surfaced that makes this effort both very timely and extremely strategically important.

As promised, we will announce this effort on a telephone townhall later this month. We will send out several emails in advance of the townhall informing you as to the date and time of the townhall, and how you can sign up to participate. So please stay tuned!
