"That's What It's Going to Take"

Recently I participated in a conference call with some congressional staff members. The purpose of the call was to discuss possible legislative courses of action to address some of the specific ways in which radical Islam poses a threat to our nation.

During the call we discussed the challenges in Congress that face our congressional friends who "get it" and who want to tackle the problem of radical Islam. I shared with these staff members what we in ACT! for America are currently doing. I also shared with them our goal of creating a national citizen action network of at least 1 million members within the next few years, so that, among other things, we would be able to provide powerful grassroots pressure on elected officials in order to make things happen.

In response, a senior staff member said simply: "That's what it's going to take."

The response from this staff member was very telling - and underscores just how essential it is that we succeed in this mission.

You have heard Brigitte and I say this before, but it bears repeating:

Education about the threat of Islamofascism is necessary - but it's not sufficient.

I know for a fact that there are many Members of Congress and their staffs who understand the threat and are willing to do something about it.

I also know for a fact that there are forces in Congress and the government at large that will resist any and all attempts at meaningful public policy changes. These forces are allied with most of the "establishment media," much of academia, and, of course, the Muslim lobby.

Education is waking people up - but education alone will not overcome the forces arrayed against us. It will require grassroots people power - informed, organized and dedicated.

This is why, when people ask us, "Will ACT! for America ultimately accomplish its mission?" Brigitte and I reply, "Yes - because we can't afford not to."
