House Republicans are planning to introduce legislation known as the "Guaranteeing Aggressors Zero Admission Act" (GAZA Act) to block the United States from accepting new Palestinian refugees emerging from the current crisis in Gaza.
The bill aims to prevent the Biden administration from granting visas to holders of Palestinian passports and would also prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from allowing Palestinians into the United States through the agency's parole program.
Supporters of the bill are concerned about national security and the potential for unvetted individuals to enter the country, citing historical events such as Palestinians celebrating the 9/11 attacks and the election of Hamas as a reason for caution.
“We can’t let President Biden abuse our parole and visa rules to bring unvetted Palestinians into American communities the way he did with thousands of unvetted Afghans,” Tiffany said in a posting to X Saturday.
Stop Palestinian Refugees from Entering the US!
In contrast, some lawmakers, like Rep. Jamaal Bowman, have advocated for welcoming refugees from Palestine stating, “The international community as well as the United States should be prepared to welcome refugees from Palestine while being very careful to vet and not allow members of Hamas.”
