The following are federal bills that have passed in the U.S. House and/or Senate, and/or were signed into law that ACT for America actively supported – both via the organization’s Director of Government Relations on Capitol Hill, and by its hundreds of thousands of grassroots activists all across the nation.
H.R. 1073 The Critical Infrastructure Protection Act (CIPA) – Amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to secure critical infrastructure against electromagnetic threats, and for other purposes.
H.R. 237 The FTO Passport Revocation Act of 2015 – Amends the Passport Act of 1926 to prohibit, with a discretionary exception for emergencies or humanitarian reasons, the Secretary of State from issuing a passport or passport card to an individual who is a member of, affiliated with, or is otherwise helping a foreign terrorist organization.
S. 2040 The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) – Legislation that amends the federal judicial code to narrow the scope of foreign sovereign immunity by authorizing U.S. courts to hear cases involving claims against a foreign state for injuries, death, or damages that occur inside the United States as a result of a tort, including an act of terrorism, committed anywhere by a foreign state or official.
H.R. 2194 “Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act of 2009” – Amends the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 to enhance the United States diplomatic with respect to Iran by expanding economic sanctions against Iran.
H.R. 1299 The “Secure Border Act of 2011” – Directs the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) to submit to the House Committee on Homeland Security, and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, a comprehensive strategy for gaining operational control of the international borders of the United States within five years.
H.R. 1905 The “Iran Threat Reduction Act” – To Strengthen Iran sanctions laws for the purpose of compelling Iran to abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons and other threatening activities.
H.R. 3783 The “Countering Iran in the Western Hemisphere Act” – Declares that it shall be U.S. policy to use all elements of national power to counter Iran’s growing presence and hostile activity in the Western Hemisphere. Directs the Secretary of State to submit to Congress a strategy to address Iran’s growing presence ad activity in the Western Hemisphere.
H. Res. 36 Establishing a select committee to investigate and report on the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya – Establishes a select congressional committee to investigate and report on the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi Libya.
H.R. 850 Nuclear Iran Prevention Act of 2013 – Requires the Secretary of State to determine if Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) meets the criteria for designation as a foreign terrorist organization and: (1) if so, designate the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization; and (2) if not, report to Congress concerning those criteria which have not been met. Expresses the sense of Congress regarding the imposition of sanctions on certain Iranian governmental persons responsible for, or complicit in, human rights abuses, diversion of food and medicine, and censorship.
S.2195 A bill to deny admission to the United States to any representative to the United States who has engaged in espionage activities against the United States, poses a threat to the United States national security interests, or has engaged in a terrorist activity against the United States.
H.R. 825 The United States-Israel Trade and Commercial Enhancement Act – Legislation that states that U.S. Trade negotiating objectives for trade agreements with foreign countries will (1) discourage actions by potential trading partners that discourage commercial activity between the U.S. And Israel; (2) discourage politically motivated actions to boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel and to seek the elimination of politically motivated non-tarrif barriers on Israel commerce; and (3) seek the elimination of state-sponsored unsanctioned foreign boycotts against Israel or compliance with the Arab League Boycott of Israel.
H.R. 2765 Free Speech Protection Act – Prohibits a domestic court from recognizing or enforcing a foreign judgment for defamation unless certain strict thresholds are met.
H.R. 1164 - The Taylor Force Act – Withholds money to the Palestinian Authority until the State Dept. certifies that it is not acting against U.S. and Israeli citizens.
